"As we all know that India, our cunning enemy, adventured to intrude in our territory but miserably failed due to bold and prompt response of Pakistan Air Force and our armed forces determinedly responded and shot down 2 Indian Mig 21 aircrafts the very next day and made 220 million Pakistanis proud with their head high." He said, emboldened, we solemnly pledge, and expressed our resolve, to stand firm with our Armed Forces and that we shall go to any length, for our freedom and sovereignty, offering sweat, toil and last drop of blood that flows in our veins. He also spoke on different types of drugs and its psychological and social effects on human life.
Addl IGP said people had become addicted to smart phone and narcotics. He said illiteracy rate is high. He said all these issues could cost us losing our identity as a nation. He shared with students the symptoms of a drug addict and causes and effects of the drug abuse.
"The use of drug in our society is due to psychological and socio-cultural factors," he said, adding that huge money involved in drug trafficking that is the reason why people are attracted to it. Shaikh said Pakistan was listed 5th in global ranking list on drug abuse.
Karachi Police Chief said they took action against drug dealers and suppliers, not the users because they count them patients. He said that recently, a drug supplier was arrested whose 80 percent of contacts were young students which is an alarming situation.
Shaikh said use of ice was very dangerous and recently two kids died because of overdose. He alerted that use of ice for people aged above 40 is life threatening.
Chancellor of Sir Syed University Jawaid Anwar said youth is the main target for drug abuse because they easily fall into the trap. He urged that parents should strictly watch their children's activities.
Convenor Literary Art and Culture Forum Professor Noshaba Siddiqui said that more than 10 million people have fallen to drug abuse in Pakistan. She also spoke on use of liquor and cigarettes. She said 40 pc men and 9 pc women splurge Rs 750 million in using liquor and smoking cigarette. Pledge Drug abuse has become a fashion statement among the youth who belong to rich families, she noted.
